Our business unit at AKQUINET is specialized in developing individual software solutions. Our development and operations team focuses on medical and health applications. They have experience in medical studies and registers. And are also skilled in medical data analysis and visualization. Additionally, they provide solutions for medical quality control and assurance.
In Germany, the Associations of SHI Physicians (KV) play an important role in the field of medical quality assurance (QA). Among other duties, they are to support resident doctors. They help in maintaining and improving the quality of their work results. And the KV also enhance related processes. For example, the KV check treatment documentation, required qualifications of the doctors and the condition of required local infrastructure.
Given the complexity of the health system, the underlying processes of quality assurance are complex as well. So far, the KV-internal QA processes include many manual steps, numerous documents of different formats and media types as well as varying administrative paths. Many medical procedures need to be monitored. This creates a very high cognitive load for the KVs’ employees.
In close collaboration with the respective departments of our client KV, we develop a software solution that supports employees on their way through the quality assuring process. The software supports in organizing meetings of QA committees, documenting their decisions and providing results to consecutive processing steps. It also supports the officer reviewing medical documentations and conducting quality assuring measures.
As the software is developed in an agile approach, first effects of its usage can already be reported although only a handful procedures are so far implemented. Employees working with the software notice a quality improvement in the committee’s work documentation. As the software promotes regulatory-conforming wording, post-processing time of committee sessions is drastically reduced. Further, employees welcome the software guiding them through the QA process, reducing their cognitive load and thus decreasing the risk of mistakes.
In future, more procedures are to be implemented. Further, integrating the software into the IT infrastructure of our client is envisaged.
